OK, so maybe I should be asking who looks more punk than pretty in gothy purple lipstick, but, Rihanna, Jamie-Lynn Sigler (on the set of Ugly Betty Season Four) and Agyness Deyn are three fashion forward ladies who are taking a risk by wearing such a daring, dark lip shade. We already know that deep purple lipstick is on trend for Autumn, but is it a colour you think you'd actually wear? Vote on whose plummy pout you think looks the prettiest below.

2009 Primetime Emmy Awards Trend: Purple Majesty

I'm surprised purple majesty doesn't turn up on more red carpets. The color of royalty - and creativity - is both beautiful and unique. Several screen sensations decided to don my favorite color and the results were just lovely. Dana Delaney chose a beaded bodice Basil Soda Couture gown in a rich dark grape, while others flirted with higher hemlines, floral details, and plunging necklines. Source: WireImage

Chantecaille Launches Sylvie Personal 2009 Autumn Collection

Just out is the latest launch from Chantecaille called Sylvie Personal Collection. The range consists of four new products in the purple family (a popular colour trend this season) and was inspired by Sylvie Chantecaille, the founder of the brand. It is intended to be a fashion forward range for the chic and sophisticated, stylish city woman with gunmetal packaging and simple yet strong colours. The range isn't overly exhaustive, but I think the items are well chosen and it manages to pack a lot of punch.

The star product is of course Sylvie's Personal Palette (£75) which contains three powder shadows in a matte vanilla shade, a shimmery fawn brown, a brown-plum colour and a medium pink blusher, each embossed with a signature Chantecaille rose - a pretty and feminine touch (don't you think)? The shadows can be worn wet or dry and are although the colours are soft, they are rich in pigment so they show up better than you'd expect.

Lip Chic in Heirloom (£24) is a brand-new, rich, creamy and deep berry shade that gives you the even and heavy coverage of a lipstick, but you also get the high shine and plumping effects of a gloss as it contains collagen give lips an extra added fullness.
Le Stylo in Dark Brown (£21) is an amazing and long-lasting liquid liner that's housed in an easy to use, super precise marker form. This dark brown shade is slightly softer than black and looks great on all skin tones.
Luminous Eye Liner in Viola (£19) is a dramatic purple-brown liquid eyeliner that contains pearls and tons of pigment that create a bold line on your eyes.
As I described earlier, Sylvie's Personal Palette (£75) contains three nuetral eye shadows and a medium pink blusher, each embossed with an image of a delicate rose.

All Aboard! The Nars 2009 Autumn Colour Collection Is Here

Not only does this year mark the 15th anniversary for Nars Cosmetics, but last Monday was the highly anticipated launch of the brand new six-item Autumn 2009 Colour Collection. The inspiration behind the goodies came from none other than the young and precocious icon, Lolita. François Nars was "looking for a model who could represent the modern, independent woman, but who also had a girlish, innocence about her."

It's funny, because I thought the ad campaign doll looking model was Lily Donaldson, but it's actually a Canadian beauty named Heather Marks whose career began in 2003 with Givenchy. The photographs were taken in New York City by François Nars himself, and Heather is wearing the products from the '09 line whose names incidentally were influenced by Nars' pursuits and interests, yet they don't necessarily have any direct correlation to Lolita.

My favourite product is a nail varnish called Tokaido Express (£12.50). From a distance it looks black, but up close it's a purple shade with gold flecks that look rich, exciting and ridiculously chic. Wearing this polish is akin to wearing a fabulous cuff or statement piece.

Fast Ride Lipstick: (£17) is an edgy, dark mulberry (and totally intimidating lipstick) that falls somewhere between an intense stain, and a gothy purple. What I love is its that the sheen keeps it looking fashion forward and seductive.
Mekong Single Eyeshadow: (£15) is a must for those with green or hazel eyes. The black-brown shadow contains rose gold flecks that make green eyes pop!
Silk Road Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is a new pair of powder shadows that were influenced from traditional damask fabrics. One side houses a frosty pink whilst the other side is a rosey gold with golden shimmer.
Brumes Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is another new powder shadow duo that has a matte charcoal shade one side (great as a liner or for the ultimate smoky eye) and the other side is a sparkly sky blue hue.
Indian Summer Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is the most fashion forward of the eyeshadow pairs. Inside there's a frosted khaki shade beside a bold, matte, mustardy colour.
Tokaido Express Nail Polish: (£12.50) is black-plum varnish enhanced with finely milled gold sparkles and is named after Japan’s famed high-speed railway. From afar you'd think it's black, if you look a little bit closer, it's far more interesting!

Are You a Purple Person?

I spotted this purple-centric photo in the portfolio of designer Anne Coyle, and I realized how rare the color is in interiors. Purple, as I see it, is not a color that you just use or end up with unintentionally. It's like cilantro: you either love it or you don't. Neutral colors, blues, and greens are more common. My mother is a purple fanatic - purple dining room, purple golf balls, countless purple cashmere sweaters - so, although I'm not a purple person, I never realized how unusual it is in interiors. How about you?

Love It or Hate It? Peaches Goes Purple

Last night in East London, Peaches Geldof partied with her mates with newly goth-inspired purple hair and chipped metallic blue nail varnish. I'm quite used to seeing a more reserved side of peaches with blonde or brunette hair, so this dye job came as quite a surprise to me.
