Cool Idea: A Framed Scarf Makes Instant Art

Building a unique collection of artwork for your home doesn't come easily, or cheaply. Those who think liberally about what justifies "art" often have the most interesting homes. Su Casa member ckim8120, of the wonderful blog A Sweet Concoction, is a prime example of this. She took a second look at a retro scarf that didn't quite appeal to her sartorial sensibilities, but had a beautiful living room "scape" straight out of a Parisian salon, and decided to mat and frame it. It's an unusual design to begin with, so you'd be hard pressed to find anyone with the same print on the wall. And to me it looks more like a painting than a textile. On another note, how chic is that sitting room? I want to move right into it.

Casa Quickie: A Tablecloth Alternative

For me, setting the table is a little like getting dressed: I won't be caught dead wearing the same thing two days in a row. I like to switch up my dinnerware, napkin rings, glasses, table linens, and menu (of course) each day. But sometimes I tire of my tabletop "wardrobe" and sometimes it's just laundry day. When that happens, I look into my real wardrobe for some alternatives. For this little breakfast nook, I decided to use a cotton scarf as a tablecloth. It's nothing fancy, and the shape isn't perfect for a round table, but it's just breakfast! I think the houndstooth check pattern has a sort of updated Italian ristorante vibe, don't you?

Trend Alert: Printed Scarves

Over the past few days I have spotted a lot of printed scarves at London Fashion Week both on the catwalk and on the street. People are wearing them around their necks, on their heads and as an alternative to a belt. I particularly like them tied through your hair, almost like an alice band.

There are many printed scarves available already and they featured strongly in Topshop Unique's Spring line. They're often tied in a bow so think more Amy Winehouse than Lauren Conrad.

Don't wear a colour that clashes with your outfit or hair colour, but other than that have fun with this trend.

Trend Alert: Leopard Print Scarf

The leopard print scarf trend is by no means a new development. Kate Moss rocked the style back in 2007 along with Sienna Miller, Ashley Olsen and Jessica Simpson, and this Autumn it's back with a vengeance. A few weeks ago Kelly Osbourne marked the beginning of a cooler season with hers, and yesterday Trinny Woodall and Coleen Rooney showed off theirs. The list of celebs is seemingly endless but I guess what you really want to know is where can you get your hands on the scarf?

Most of it's celeb fans have the original Louis Vuitton scarf (£375) I'm sure it's soft and luxe, but sadly this would set me back a month's rent. Luckily I found a great alternative at Topshop (£16) that won't make you part of the credit crunch.

Crave Worthy: Bespoke Silk Scarf Chair

I've never been a fan of branding (logos, monograms, etc.), and in fact I pretty much detest it. It kind of makes me feel like I'm in a herd of cattle. That being said, even though the Suzan Fellman Bespoke Silk Scarf Chair ($6,400) may feature a prominently placed Chanel logo, I still totally heart it. Upholstered with vintage silk scarves, it transforms your basic slipper chair into a statement piece that's a little bit Art Deco and a bit mod. Its sleek, transparent Lucite legs are a non-competing counterpart to the bold patterns, and they contribute a bit of a 1930s vibe. Love it?

The air is already getting cold in London so it's no surprise that the celebs are reaching for their trusty winter accessories. Just this week I have spotted a trend amongst London celebrities wearing the eye-catching Louis Vuitton camouflage scarf. Marc Jacobs has designed a range of camouflage accessories for the fashion house and it seems the scarf has caught on with both Estelle and Louise Redknapp. It's not available for mere mortals just yet but what do you think?

Look of the Day: Spring Style

Dressing for Spring is notoriously difficult and one which I often rely upon a cardigan for! You can add a cardigan (and tights) to a summer dress, to a pretty top or even to a playsuit and it becomes instantly wearable on a cooler day. Sugar reader Kalliefornia is well aware of this and even threw a bright plaid scarf in to the mix. A scarf is a great way to add colour to an outfit as well as providing extra warmth.
