Etsy Finds: Gray and Yellow Artwork

Since I wrote my slideshows on how to decorate with gray and with yellow, I've been on a major gray and yellow kick, and I'm considering using those colors in a palette for one of my rooms. So as a start, I thought I'd see what gray and yellow artwork is out there. Obviously having more than two colors in a painting or a print will give it more depth and visual interest, so it's not limited to just these hues! Let's take a look.

Desire/Acquire: Rubie Green Tillinghast Fabric

Don't get me wrong: I absolutely adore Rubie Green textiles. But the label's stylish and eco-conscious fabrics are not exactly wallet-conscious. This cheerful, Chippendale-esque Tillinghast fabric goes for $90 a yard. It's true, there are fabrics much more expensive. But this price tag adds up when you're ordering drapes for every window in your living room, or covering the whole canvas of a chair, and then you pay your upholsterer. Luckily, I know one fabric with a similar sunny yellow trellis pattern to save you some dimes. Want to see it?

Su Casa member RachelG decided to add her two cents to my decorating with yellow post and give an old book table and wicker chair a makeover with a few coats of sunny yellow spray paint. Yellow isn't my favorite color, but it's certainly a very powerful one. A room painted in a soft, pale yellow can instantly create a quaint, country vibe, while one pop of bright yellow in a dark room makes a space look modern and adventurous. Fab Finding Follow-Up: Funny Show

I'm a lover of fashion, but did you know I also like laughing? In fact, I participated in a comedy open mic in NYC a couple years back. Needless to say, I bombed. Last weekend, I left it to the professionals and attended a comedy show with a couple of friends. I asked you to put together a cunning outfit for me.

I started you off with these Opening Ceremony Lace-Up Flats ($222, originally $370) because I was inspired by Sienna Miller's cool 'fit. So many good looks, let's see who made the cut!

Look #1, created by catita85, is simple yet complex. The gray blouse goes exceptionally well with the sandals.

Get the Look: Call Me Mellow Yellow and Gray

I wrote about the pale yellow and gray trend nearly two years ago, but baby's still got a hold on me. I spotted this subtle living room in Homes and Gardens, and couldn't help but want to scratch everything in my own digs and re-create this look.Naturally, the Ligne Roset sofa and the B&B Italia Fat Fat - Lady Fat Table make the room all the more crave worthy, but the palette is really what makes me swoon. The room has a mostly white and pale gray background with small punches of yellow and some black elements to balance out the pastel. Steal of the Day: Climbing Dahlia Curtain

There's a reason Pantone named Mimosa color of the year. It's just the cheerful, nurturing hue we need in this downtrodden economy. It helps our wallets too if we can have our Mimosa at a discount. The Anthropologie Climbing Dahlia Curtain ($49.95, reduced from $98) is the best of both worlds - colorful and affordable. I love the vertical pattern of its floral vines. I'm envisioning it in this already stylish home office, but it would also instantly perk up a simple kitchen. I'd love to see it paired with a soft gray, like these guest quarters by Mae Brunken. What do you think?
