Why This 1 Magazine Cover Has the Power to Change the Fashion Industry

Teen Vogue's latest cover subjects are slated to be the new faces of fashion. The August issue makes a statement against the predominance of white models in the fashion industry by featuring three young black women: Aya Jones, Lineisy Montero, and Imaan Hammam. The fresh faces wear frayed denim looks and sport a variety of hairstyles, from slicked straight to a short 'fro and lush curls.

Teen Vogue Beauty and Health Director Elaine Welteroth, who's biracial herself and penned the August cover story, admits that there's a lack of diversity in fashion. "I will be the first to say that the industry still has a long way to go in addressing the deep need for more affirming messages that reinforce the fact that [a girl of color] is beautiful and that she matters," she wrote.

We're sure these young models will continue on their path to successful careers. Just like It girls Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn, who were featured in the pages of Teen Vogue before reaching supermodel status, Jones, Montero, and Hammam are on their way to causing the change in fashion that we believe is long overdue. Take a look at each model's own Teen Vogue cover here, and catch them on newsstands on July 14.
