What Will They Wear? The 2014 Emmys Red Carpet Predictions Are Here!

In less than a few hours, our favorite stars will return to the red carpet for this year's Emmy Awards. And because this award show is one of the first big events to take place since the Fall 2014 ready-to-wear and haute couture shows, these A-list attendees get first dibs on some of the very best gowns of the season. With the stakes that high, we researched those runways up and down and made our own wish list for this year's most stylish nominees.

From Kerry Washington in a floral Monique Lhuillier ball gown to Julia Roberts returning to her Valentino roots to Lena Dunham going all-out glam, scroll down through our sartorial predictions. And check back here tonight as we cover the red carpet live to see how many dresses we got right!

The actress, nominated for her role in The Normal Heart, definitely has a red carpet routine, and it's both black and white. When we saw this Valentino couture gown, it reminded us not just of her recent return to the award circuit this year but also to her famous Oscar-winning dress back in 2001, another black-and-white number from Valentino.

There aren't many women who can look completely sexy while being completely covered up. The Orange Is the New Black star is one of them. We hope to see her in this bold red Prabal Gurung dress. Despite the high embellished neckline and long sleeves, that slit and cutout will grab everyone's attention.

The Downton Abbey star often sticks to her British roots when it comes to dressing, opting to wear Burberry and Mulberry to many red carpets. We'd love her to try out Jenny Packham (one of Kate Middleton's favorite designers!), and this belted gold gown looks like a perfect pairing.

It's true that, 99 percent of the time, the Parks and Recreation nominee is wearing all black on the red carpet. But that doesn't mean we can't wish for the one percent. When she wears prints, she often opts for cap sleeves and a feminine fit, which makes this Carolina Herrera dress a contender.

The House of Cards star has such poise both on and off screen, and we can't help but love her signature style — sharp lines and powerful silhouettes. Not your typical suit, this Zuhair Murad couture white jacket-and-skirt set gets an edgy spin with a three-dimensional bodice that, we think, only Claire Underwood could pull off.

The Mad Men star always gets noticed for her curves on the red carpet, but we actually think her recent looks have been rather demure, and it's a trend we're happy to see continue. Because we know she's most comfortable in Christian Siriano, we chose this deep-emerald dress from the designer. Its additional waistline ruching will play up her hourglass figure, and the wrap bodice will flaunt her best assets without showing off too much.

A lover of floral prints, the Scandal actress will likely fall for this graphic Monique Lhuillier dress. And, although she's one to take risks (who can forget her maternity crop top?!), we think she might stick with this classic strapless silhouette just a few months after giving birth.

One of the most fashion-forward stars to hit the red carpet this year has been the House of Cards actress, and we love her penchant for highly architectural designs instead of the typical mermaid gown. Just this week, she attended the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in a yellow Christian Dior dress, so we're hoping she'll go for Dior couture — particularly this exaggerated-waist dress — for the main event.

Tina Fey

Tina Fey — nominated for her guest role on Saturday Night Live — often scores higher best dressed rankings when she sticks with a single color, and of her most frequented hues, we think burgundy is best. We'd love to see how she'll look with just a little extra drama (in the form of on-tone beadwork) provided by this Jason Wu dress. Plus, the sexy scoop neck is one we know Tina isn't afraid to try.

Claire Danes

One of the most loyal stars in Hollywood might just be Homeland's Claire Danes. The star rarely hits up a red carpet in a dress by a designer other than Giorgio Armani (her last two Emmys dresses were from the fashion house), so we think this Armani Privé dress — with the low-cut neckline she gravitates toward — is a shoo-in.

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham

Sure, when it comes to her Girls alter ego, Lena Dunham is often wearing mesh tank tops and supershort rompers, but when she hits a red carpet, she always turns up the Old Hollywood volume. And she often opts for gowns by go-to designer Zac Posen. We think the bold star will be up for the task of wearing this sculpted teal ball gown.

The Masters of Sex nominee often takes the 1950s-era sensibilities of her show with her onto the red carpet, where she routinely opts for retro looks over more-modern ones. We think this ruffled polka-dot Oscar de la Renta dress would be a fun choice for the playful star.
