Gwyneth Paltrow Has "Cherished Every Chapter" of Motherhood — Meet Her Kids

Gwyneth Paltrow may be known for her work as an actor and the founder of Goop, but at the end of the day, she's just "Mom" to her kids. Prior to her relationship with Brad Falchuk, whom Paltrow wed in 2018, the actor was married to Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin. During their 11 years of marriage, Paltrow and Martin welcomed two children together. After publicly ending their relationship, Paltrow and Martin vowed to be the best coparents possible, and from the looks of it, they've done just that.

"It's so interesting because in a way my divorce and my relationship with Chris now is better than our marriage was. So I do think that it can be done," Paltrow told Drew Barrymore during an interview in 2020. "We're all part good and part bad. It's not binary. We're all gray area. We're all trying our best. And I really wanted my kids to not be traumatized if it were possible. Chris and I committed to putting them first, and that's harder than it looks 'cause some days you really don't want to be with the person you're getting divorced from. But if you're committed to having family dinner then you do it. And you take a deep breath, and you look the person in the eye, and you remember your pact and you smile, and you hug and you make a joke and you just re-commit to this new relationship that you are trying to foster."

Paltrow has also been open about how she's enjoyed every chapter of motherhood thus far. "As a mother, I've really cherished every chapter of their lives," she told People in October 2022. "It's funny, I always thought, when they were born I was like, 'It's never going to be better than this,' but then they were 2, and then 5, and every stage I've been like, 'This is better than the last.' And I feel that way now."

Paltrow and Martin don't shy away from showing off their happy family celebrations and how far they've come since separating. They often post about each other on social media, and their children are front and center of their lives. To find more about Paltrow and Martin's kids, scroll through this gallery.

Apple Martin

Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born in London on May 14, 2004. While the couple was quick to make headlines for the unique name they chose for their daughter, Paltrow later revealed the adorable meaning behind the moniker. "Basically it was because, when we were first pregnant, her daddy said one day, if it's a girl I think her name should be Apple, and it just sounded so sweet and it conjures such a lovely picture for me, you know apples are so sweet and they're wholesome and it's biblical and I just thought it sounded so lovely," Paltrow told Oprah Winfrey (via People). "And then she was born and it became an international outrage which I found surprising because there are people named Rose or Lily or Ivy or June or lots of pretty nouns."

Despite her parents being famous and well off, Apple got to work at a young age, with her dad telling Ellen DeGeneres in January 2020 that she was working in retail ahead of her 16th birthday. "My daughter works in a clothing store," he gushed. "It's her first job and she's about to be 16. And I'm so proud of her. She's making her way in the world."

After graduating high school, Apple was college-bound, though it's unclear which school she chose to attend. What is clear, however, is that Paltrow was not ready to let go just yet. "It's a huge change because she's really hilarious, and she's got a big presence," Paltrow told James Corden (via People). "So when we're around the dinner table now, and someone comes over and says to Moses, 'What is it like with your sister not home?' he says, 'Quiet.' "

In May 2023, Apple's birthday fell on Mother's Day, and Paltrow took the opportunity to publicly praise her daughter. "Happy Birthday my angel," she wrote. "Thank you for sharing your birthday this year with Mother's Day, a fitting conjugation, a double celebration of you and what you have given to me- the GIFT of being your mom. I love you so deeply and wholly, it defies articulation. To behold you as a 19 year old woman fills my heart with almost unbearable love, pride and meaning! I can't take it! Thank you for making me brunch, I am making you dinner!! I love you so much, forever and ever, mama."

In an October 2023 interview with Bustle, Paltrow talked about her daughter, who recently started college. "It's so fun to have a daughter that age, especially because she's into clothes and skin and all that kind of stuff. She's more girly than I am. She's really good at doing makeup and loves to do it," Paltrow said.

Touching on Apple's college process, the proud mom added, "Apple was very clear on where she wanted to go, and did everything in her power to make it happen and manifested it."

Moses Martin

Moses Bruce Paltrow Martin was born on April 8, 2006, at New York City's Mount Sinai Hospital. Since he's still in high school, not much is known about Moses, other than what his parents post on social media.

Moses did, however, briefly chat with Jimmy Fallon via Zoom in June 2020 where he spoke about his passion for music. "I'm really into music," he said. "Right now I'd say I'm playing guitar the most; it used to be piano for a while, and now I'm doing guitar lessons again."

In April 2023, Paltrow honored Moses on his 17th birthday with an Instagram post, in which she wrote, "Happy 17th birthday to the boy that fills my soul up every time I look at him. @mosesmartin you are the most exceptional, kind, loving human being. You keep us all laughing with your perfect impressions and you inspire us with your harmonies. I deeply adore you more than you could ever imagine! Love, mama."

While discussing Moses's future with Bustle in October 2023, Paltrow said his outlook on college is different from Apple's. She explained, "Moses is like, 'I don't know, I like this and I like that, and let's go back and see this, let's go back and see that one.' He's more relaxed about it. He's kind of like 'I'll be happy wherever; it's fine,' which is a great feeling."
