How to Make Denim Cutoff Shorts

Hi it's Alison McNamara and for today's DIY I'm going to show you how to make the perfect pair of denim cutoffs. Here's what you'll need: a pair of jeans, scissors, measuring tape and a marking pencil. I recommend using a pair of larger jeans or men's jeans That way they rest a little lower on the hips and they have that slouchy laid-back look. First you're going to take your jeans and turn them inside-out. That way you don't cut through the pockets. Take your measuring tape and measure 3 to 4 inches from the rise. and then you'll use your marking pencil and draw a dot and then draw a dotted curve line from one side to the other Now it's time to cut across the dotted line, and make sure you have sharp scissors. Now hold your jeans in half, one on top of the other and then take your marking pencil and trace the first side onto the second side so that way they'll be even. And then you cut the other side. Turn them right side out and then try them on. If you're not happy with the length, you can always trim. The last step is to fray. Now, there are two ways to do this, you can either throw them in the washing machine, or you can actually pull the fibers here at the bottom and make your own frays.
