Meet the Woman Behind Some of Beyoncé's Best Looks

It's been exactly three weeks since Beyoncé surprised the world by releasing her eponymous visual album, and we still can't stop talking about it. But why would we? From allegations of insensitivity for using a recording from the 1986 Challenger space shuttle crash to praise for setting the bar so high for other performers, she's captured the attention of, well, everyone.

That includes Lubov Azria, chief creative officer of Hervé Léger and BCBGMAXAZRIA, who talked with us recently about creating clothes for the singer. Azria designed pieces for her to wear not only in the album's videos but also for her current tour, the Mrs. Carter Show. "She is truly incredible," Azria told us. "Beyoncé is a true artist."

POPSUGAR: How did you start working with Beyoncé?

Lubov Azria: Beyoncé has been a fan of the brand for years. A few months ago, her team approached us for Hervé Léger by Max Azria swim, which we were very excited to send. For her Mrs. Carter tour, her stylist recently requested looks from our Spring 2014 collection, which we customized.

PS: What's Beyoncé like to work with? Did she have an idea of what she wanted, or did she come to you with a blank slate?

LA: Beyoncé is a true artist. She has a vision and then her team works to create and execute that vision.

PS: How many outfits did you create for the tour?

LA: There were two looks from the Spring 2014 collection that the pieces for the current tour came from.

PS: Is there a difference between creating looks for a music video, as you did with Beyonce's "Yoncé," and creating them for a tour?

LA: There is definitely a difference. When it comes to tour, the pieces mainly need to have incredible stage presence — and also accommodate movement for all the dance routines and quick changes backstage. As a result, we usually have to amp the amount of embellishment while keeping in mind functionality. For the recent tour, we added some extra gold zippers on the pieces.

PS: What's your favorite Beyoncé song to dance to?

LA: Hard to say! I love "Crazy in Love" and of course who didn’t love "Single Ladies"? "Drunk in Love" from the new album is amazing. She is truly incredible.
