Winter wardrobe sensibility and holiday dressing can sometimes be a little tricky. We'll follow the lead of these season-savvy celebs. They know how to top off their formal eveningwear with equally cool outerwear, and they do it with the most plush fabrics. We've been quietly admiring these cutouts from afar, but it's time to dive right in to this skin-baring trend.

We've been quietly admiring these cutouts from afar, but it's time to dive right in to this skin-baring trend. The London premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo not only gave us more reason to be excited for the movie's release stateside, but leading lady Rooney Mara also stunned in a white embroidered Givenchy couture gown. Thanks to the subtle yet sexy cutout details, she flashed just enough skin to add a seductive flair to her elegant look. Olivia Wilde donned a keyhole cutout-enhanced black dress, Nicky Hilton chose a bright turquoise dress complete with sleek darted cutouts, and Nicole Richie channeled her edgier side in a leather boxy cutout gown. Red Carpet Styling Tip: The Blazer

You know that fun, girly dress you love, the one you don't wear nearly enough because it needs to feel a little more polished, or maybe it needs to feel less dressy?
Red Carpet Style: Dresses and Jackets

You know that fun, girly dress you love, the one you don't wear nearly enough because it needs to feel a little more polished, or maybe it needs to feel less dressy? The style answer to that conundrum is a blazer. It can elevate a beachy maxi dress just in time for a movie premiere, a la Sarah Jessica Parker in her Oscar de la Renta resort gown and Salvatore Ferragamo blazer, or it can downplay the frills of a gown or mini, as Emma Watson showed to great effect in London, and Charlize with a feathered minidress. Want to get the look? Click to shop similar outfits, or just look in your closet. Chances are you already own a sharp blazer, so simply introduce it to your most feminine dress for an ultra-modern style marriage.

To complement, she selected Giuseppe peep-toe heels and delicate Lorraine Schwartz jewels, but went for full impact makeup with a sultry smoky eye, and slicked, side-parted hair. Last night's Oscars had some gorgeous accessories moments, and we're jonesing to get our hands on the stars' sparkling red-carpet earrings. Busy Philipps wore Irene Neuwirth earrings, and we found a smaller, less expensive (but still an investment) version. Reese Witherspoon wore Neil Lane emeralds, and we found these for under $100. Tassel earrings are a must thanks to Natalie Portman rocking a pair from Tiffany's; for Spring we like this version in turquoise. Finally, Gwyneth's Louis Vuitton multicolor seahorse earrings were so fun, we need a pair for ourselves, in the form of these peacocks ($48). Click to shop!
