  • Glowy, "glazed" skin is trending all over social media.
  • Flower Beauty recently released the Spotlight Liquid Highlighter, which promises to give you that same glow.
  • One editor put the highlighter to the test and was impressed with the results.

Though TikTok's It girl aesthetic seems to involve as little makeup as possible, there are just some aspects of my makeup routine that will never be replaced, one being highlighter. I can readily admit that I've fallen victim to the glittery and holographic highlighter trends that were popular five years ago; however, as a full-fledged adult, I accept that I may need something a little more subtle these days. Thankfully, while scrolling Instagram one day, I came across the Flower Beauty Spotlight Liquid Highlighter ($13), which looked exactly like another (more expensive) highlighting product that has been incredibly hard to get a hold of, so I decided to give it a try.

The product comes in three shades that cover a range of skin tones, from fair to deep, which is a huge plus. Of the three colors available, I decided to use two: Gilded, a bronzy hue, and Opal, a white-gold shade.

The first thing I noticed about this highlighter was the squeeze-tube applicator. I had to squeeze out the product and dab it directly onto my skin, which kept application precise and mess free. (I am someone who is typically running out the door in a hurry, so I don't always remember to remove the makeup I put on the back of my hand.)

When I applied the shade Gilded, it immediately disappeared onto my skin and gave an almost glassy effect when blended. Since I like more of a gleaming highlight, I also went in with Opal, a lighter hue, to add some dimension to the glow that was already there. The addition of the extra shade gave more of the highlighting effect that I was looking for and definitely accentuated my cheekbones. The second layer of product did not make my face feel greasy or oily, and the highlight it provided was subtle yet sophisticated. It definitely looked like I actually drank my full eight glasses of water that day.

Overall, this highlighter is a solid option, and for $13 I will definitely repurchase this once I run out. The glow it provided was more reminiscent of freshly applied skin care than the glittery, pore-emphasizing formulas of my youth, which makes me appreciate it all the more. You can't go wrong with any shade of this highlighter, and for the price, why not pick up all three?
