The 4 Best Dressed Women at Cannes, According to Our Editors

If you keep track of the looks at the Cannes Film Festival, then you know a star's daytime wardrobe is just as important as her red carpet gowns. There's a light Summertime vibe in the air that invites supermodels and actresses to bring along their favorite swimsuits and bohemian dresses, which double as cover-ups. We took note of them all, obsessed over off-duty outfits, and admired photo call ensembles from every angle.

While we were amped up for the annual amfAR Gala (being that ladies tend to save their best dress for last), we couldn't forget about the style notes we spotted in between. All of this culminated in a pretty weighty moment: the POPSUGAR Fashion editors each nominated a best dressed. There's no going back now — just scroll on to see who we put on a pedestal this season, and all the reasons why.

Hannah's Pick: Kendall Jenner

"Heading into Cannes, I always look to ladies like Diane Kruger, who's been there for seasons and has mastered that movie-star chic, South of France style. This year, Kendall blew even the vets out of the water with a wardrobe that went from effortless vacation looks to showstopping red carpet gowns.

This is like the elevated version of everyone's Summer striped tee and white jeans. It's a more polished look for Kendall, and she nailed it (wearing Solace London). I hope she keeps doing this!" — Hannah Weil McKinley, director

"This gorgeous Zimmermann dress was made for a beach getaway, but I love that she gave it a surprising twist with white sneakers, instead of sandals." — HWM

"She looks like a dream in this Giambattista Valli dress, despite tricky details like a one-shoulder and a high-low hemline. She carried it beautifully, accessorized it perfectly, and now it's the look that I can't get out of my head." — HWM

Sarah's Pick: Elle Fanning

"Elle wore a dazzling Gucci dress to the How to Talk to Girls at Parties premiere, and I fell madly in love. Maybe it was because the floral appliqué hemline and kiwi green shade worked together to conjure images of Tiana's look in The Princess and the Frog. But most likely, it was because Elle, who is only 19 years old, manages to make a sexy plunging neckline look ladylike. In Gucci, she is more graceful than she is daring, and that's a look I can get behind." — Sarah Wasilak, editor

"Elle pulled out her Alexander McQueen prairie dress for The Beguiled photo call, and she grounded the cloud-like number with a pair of embellished platform sandals. The look felt breezy and natural, especially since the star swept up her hair to put her midi's details on display — bishop sleeves, ruched bodice with bows, and all." — SW

"Elle is the face of Miu Miu, which is my all-time favorite brand. So when she attended a private Prada dinner at Cannes, she wore Miuccia's bedtime dress along with a Prada clutch, but finished the outfit with a pair of dainty Miu Miu drop earrings that were like the icing on the cake. Elle's champagne mules were the finishing touch to an outfit I really think I'd live in." — SW

Marina's Pick: Elsa Hosk

"My first thought when I saw this outfit was 'sexy batgirl' thanks to those billowy sheer sleeves. This association probably wasn't far off given there were gold stars stitched onto her Alberta Ferretti dress, which made it look like the night sky (and bats only come out at night, right?) I loved how she also decided to go bold with her jewelry by wearing a silver necklace and chandelier earrings." — Marina Liao, assistant editor

"There were plenty of Cinderella gowns on the red carpet, but Elsa Hosk’s stood out to me the most. Her Alberta Ferretti number had a high-slit cut, a sexy element that’s been a trend in Elsa’s dresses, and a beautiful pleating detail on the fitted bodice." — ML

"Pretty in pink with a sexy twist is how I would describe Elsa's amfAR Gala dress by Ermanno Scervino. My favorite part has to be the lace embroidered train, which seemed light and airy." — ML

Nikita's Pick: Aishwarya Rai

"When you find a silhouette you like, you stick to it. And that's most definitely the case with Aishwarya's Mark Bumgarner gown. I had to zoom in to really take in the intricate floral embroidery on her voluminous dress." — Nikita Ramsinghani, assistant editor

"I have to give it to my girl Aishwarya with this baby blue Michael Cinco gown, and not just because she's my favorite Bollywood actress. Everything from its color down to the gown's full skirt reminded me of Cinderella." — NR

"Most celebrities stay away from wearing this color when they're on the red carpet but I love that Aishwarya dared to break the rules by wearing this red Ralph & Russo number. The dramatic tiers of the dress really made it pop against the red carpet." — NR
