Essena O'Neill

The blogger shed light on the negative side of her job, giving it up for posts that felt more real. "Maybe I should cover up my blemishes so people will like my appearance. Maybe I should straighten and redye my hair so I'll get more likes. Maybe I should stuff my bra so I appear more sexualized. Maybe I should pay more attention to my clothes so they appeal to mass media... Maybe I should spend hours and dollars on perfecting myself so you will like me.. Yes maybe that's what life's about (Not directed at any individual, actually that's directed to myself... Why do we do the things we? Edit: Fear and delusion. Our youth is obsessed with a 2D world. It's consuming us," Essena captioned this photo.

Allison Williams covers Harper's Bazaar in a crop top, but it took a lot of confidence to work up to posing for the editorial. She shared an inspiring message on Instagram: "One more. I am particularly proud of this one. For my whole life until 2 years ago, I was super self-conscious about my stomach. I dreaded bikini season. I kept it covered. Boyfriends weren't allowed to touch it. No amount of crunches seemed to strengthen it. Then I met @ilariacavagna who introduced me to the magic and focus of Pilates. I have never felt stronger, healthier, more focused, or more feminine. Now, I love my stomach because it keeps me grounded to my core. And it's still the same stomach! Here's to proving yourself wrong. #harperbyharpersbazaar"

Zendaya
Modeliste Magazine

Zendaya

Zendaya posted this edited shot on Instagram right next to the unretouched version. "Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue."

Modeliste Magazine has since released a statement and agreed to pull the issue, writing, "There are so many issues with public body shaming, negativity on the internet and social media, personal attacks on celebrities, and such an intense focus on weight and body issues in media that has created a distorted reality, and for many, a negative internal dialogue, eating disorders, and an unrealistic and often confused expectation of what is real . . . We are proud that Zendaya has taken this as an opportunity to address this situation, and create a very necessary honest and open dialogue. It is that open dialogue with Zendaya and her family and representatives that we have decided to present to you the most beautiful and untouched photos of our Cover shoot that are a result of this wonderful collaboration."

The full cover shoot was released Monday, Oct. 26.
