Janelle Monáe's Cutout Dress Features Thousands of Feathers

Janelle Monáe isn't afraid to make a statement with their style, and their latest red-carpet appearance was no exception. On Nov. 14, the actor stepped out for the "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" premiere in Los Angeles in a cutout gown with a feather skirt from Elie Saab's Haute Couture fall collection.

The entire, A-line skirt of the dress was covered in black and red feathers that formed a triangle pattern. At the bottom of the voluminous skirt, smaller sections of pink, purple, and black embellishments peeked through. The body of the dress echoed the linear shapes on the skirt with cutouts across Monáe's chest. Bringing the whole look together, the cutouts on the front carried over to the back and formed a lattice pattern that tapered into a deep V at their waist. The bright and dimensional textures of the gown's skirt played nicely with the velvet material.

For the bold look, Monáe tapped stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn, who accessorized the statement gown with subtle gold jewelry and diamond earrings from Al Zain that let the dress speak for itself. To contrast the shapes portrayed on the dress, Monáe's hair was styled with an abstract curl.

Looking back, this isn't the first time we've seen Monáe in cutouts. In fact, between this Elie Saab gown, their Christian Siriano cutout gown at the Oscars afterparty, and another Christian Siriano cutout dress at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards, cutouts may very well be one of Monáe's favorite trends.
