After her casual appearance at a community garden on Tuesday, the Duchess of Cambridge was back to her usual smart self for a visit to the Royal Opera House in London on Wednesday. Kate's trip included a visit to the costume department, so it's no surprise that she chose a statement-making outfit for the occasion. She followed in the footsteps of her sister-in-law by choosing to wear a regal purple outfit for her solo appearance, but while Meghan opted to team her purple dress with a bold red coat on Monday, Kate stuck to a more classic palette, accessorizing her Oscar de la Renta suit with black opaque tights and accessories.

It's not the first time we've seen the duchess in this look. She debuted the suit back in 2017 on an outing with Prince William, and back then, she teamed it with suede pumps and one of her signature clutch bags. This time around, she swapped the shoes for a pair of her favorite Rupert Sanderson Malory pumps in black patent with gold buckles and carried a black croc Mayfair bag by Aspinal of London. Both of these shiny accessories gave the look a 2019 refresh and made us consider pulling our own peplum items from back of the closet. Perhaps it's time this feminine, waist-hugging silhouette had a revival? One thing's for sure: royal purple is definitely a Winter power color.
