Hello People, Princess Diana Wore a Silk Slip to the Met Gala — or Did Everyone Forget?

The Met Gala is known as "fashion's biggest night" for a reason. Every year on the first Monday in May, celebrities, editors, and designers alike put on a dazzling display on the red carpet. While it's always exciting to try to guess what high-fashion creations will be seen on the big night, it's just as fun to take a look back at some of the gala's biggest moments from the past.

One of our all-time favorite looks has to be Princess Diana at her sole Met Gala appearance in 1996. The royal looked stunning in a navy slip dress with black lace trim from John Galliano's first Couture collection for Dior. She accessorized the lingerie-inspired gown with a matching silk shawl and a Dior mini bag.

Princess Diana also wore one of her most famous pieces of jewelry, her pearl and sapphire choker. The stunning piece was actually a sapphire and diamond brooch that the Queen Mother gave to Diana on her wedding day. The princess later converted it into the clasp for the seven-strand pearl necklace we all remember today. Ahead, reminisce about this major fashion moment with us.
