You have a signature style, but what you wear conveys more than your personality. According to a recent survey, the colors you choose to wear could have a big impact on how you are perceived. The study asked 1,000 people which colors they associate with certain personality traits — the top performer: fashion-girl favorite, black.

For any woman who has an attachment to the LBD, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Both men and women surveyed found black to be not only the most attractive color on the opposite gender but the ideal choice for inspiring confidence, sexiness, and intelligence as well. In fact, among respondents, 56 percent described black as a "color of confidence."

And in terms of colors to clear out of your closet? According to the study, you may want to steer away from wearing orange or brown — they scored lowest on the scale of colors that inspire confidence. Brown performed poorly across the board, and only one percent of women would wear it on a first date.

Now that we've got the science down, we've rounded up some of our favorite black looks that you can rock on the job or out for a night on the town. That way, the next time you're gearing up for an important event, you can let your outfit of choice do the talking.
