The Inspiration Behind Kate Middleton's Taj Mahal Dress Just Might Surprise You

We weren't surprised to find Kate Middleton's Taj Mahal dress perfectly appropriate for such a momentous occasion. The minisheath, complete with cobalt embroidery, was selected from Indian-American designer Naeem Khan's Resort 2015 collection. But, as he explained to Fashionista during an interview, he had no idea the duchess would choose his dress:

"[Kate's stylists] called us. She was going to India — and she makes it a point to honor the designer[s] from that part of the world — and I was lucky enough to be chosen for her to wear something from me. [Her stylists] asked for certain styles and we sent it over. We were not sure she was going to wear it and there she was," he said.

Another interesting tidbit? Its bright blue print was inspired by a Mexican dome. Even so, we can't help but admire how the pattern on the gorgeous number mimics the architecture behind Kate as she poses for pictures.
