2 HBO Stars Wore Black on Their Wedding Day — With Very Different Outcomes

When Girls actress Zosia Mamet married Evan Jonigkeit, she did it quietly, choosing not to promote a wedding hashtag with photos all over Instagram. Instead, she shared one close-up of two yellow ducks, letting her followers know she'd sealed the deal. But it turns out Zosia shared details about her ceremony with Vogue, where you can lay eyes on her long-sleeve Givenchy gown complete with a plunging neckline to draw attention to her William Goldberg diamond loop necklace.

Oh, and did we mention said wedding dress was black? Even so, Zosia's maxi was elegant, perfectly complementing the dark flowers in her hair and the laid-back atmosphere at Cedar Lakes Estate. Zosia completed her outfit with Brother Vellies flats and stud earrings, too.

Some brides might call it a daring move, but Zosia isn't the only HBO star who wore black on her wedding day. Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker famously chose a Morgane Le Fay dress that she's spoken out about during many interviews. Read on to hear from two fashionable brides about whether they regret ditching traditional white on their special day. Spoiler: the opinion is definitely divided . . .

Zosia Mamet on Her Black Wedding Dress

Zosia and her friends visited a department store to shop, and Zosia revealed to Vogue that "there was never an ounce of stress or anxiety about it because that day was just pure joy and fun and almost childlike. I felt a bit like a little girl sneaking into my mother’s closet. We must have tried on 40 dresses. I wanted something comfortable, and I didn’t really want to wear white. The dress I ultimately chose was by Givenchy, and it was the last one I tried on—the minute it went over my head, both my friends gasped. It definitely wasn’t the most epic in terms of the dress’s power on its own, but it fit me like a glove in every way, and I knew, without a doubt, that it was my dress. That was it, I bought it off the rack.”

Sarah Jessica Parker on Her Black Wedding Dress

In 1997, Sarah Jessica Parker slipped into a Morgane Le Fay number to marry Matthew Broderick at the Angel Orensanz Synagogue in New York. On Watch What Happens Live, she said "Oh, I wish it was because I was badass. I just was too embarrassed to spend any time looking for a wedding dress. There was a store that I liked that I knew, and I just went and got whatever they had hanging." Later, SJP told Martha Stewart Weddings she'd wear white. She described her dream dress as "Oscar de la Renta feel, pockets below the waist, a very fitted bodice, a huge skirt in taffeta, and duchesse satin."
