Zoe Saldana chose an Alexis Mabille Couture gown, complete with a gorgeous floral-embroidered bodice, for the Oscars red carpet. Take note of the matching belt, which cinched in her waistline, while a gray-and-black hemline gave her ensemble a refreshingly modern touch. The actress opted to keep her hair down in gorgeous waves and accompanied her look with black satin sandals, diamond drop earrings, and stacked diamond rings. Did she nail it?

Alexis Mabille Couture Spring 2013

What better way to celebrate his first foray as an official haute couturier than with an explosion of pretty-in-pink tulle and a cotton-candy-colored runway?

What better way to celebrate his first foray as an official haute couturier than with an explosion of pretty-in-pink tulle and a cotton-candy-colored runway? Alexis Mabille's debut Couture collection had both, plus a healthy helping of Chantilly lace, pleated organza, and silk crepe — all of which came in ice cream parlor hues to match that sugary catwalk. But it wasn't all romance and froth; the emphasis, Mabille said, was on "craftsmanship," and thus there were plenty of artisan details and expertly wielded cuts. Dresses in tulle nipped in below the natural waist and flared out from the hip in elegant flares of ruffles and tiers, while neatly tailored trousers in shiny silk made a crisp counterpoint to more voluminous tops.

    Alexis Mabille Spring 2013

Alexis Mabille said he designed his Spring 2013 collection for "a girl who stays in the city and doesn't care about the countryside."
Alexis Mabille Spring 2013 | Runway

Alexis Mabille said he designed his Spring 2013 collection for "a girl who stays in the city and doesn't care about the countryside." Maybe that explains why he paired so many of his colorful ensembles — think yellow or blue dresses with black lace overlays and lots of oversize gingham on pants, jackets, dresses, and everything in between — with tough black leather motorcycle boots. All in all, this was a new direction for Mabille: even his signature bow ties turned into functional ribbon drawstrings that gave structure to a shirtdress and allowed a few gowns to hang languidly from the neck. It seemed less about women as jewels (recall here the baubles that hung from his models' hair during his Fall 2012 Couture show) than about women as customers, which makes sense for this stage of Mabille's career. He'll celebrate the opening of his first store in Paris this week.

    Alexis Mabille Spring 2013

What do you get when you combine fresh gingham prints, Southwestern jewelry, a Little House on the Prairie vibe, and rocker-chick cool?

What do you get when you combine fresh gingham prints, Southwestern jewelry, a Little House on the Prairie vibe, and rocker-chick cool? Alexis Mabille's Spring 2013 collection in full. Marked by a little bit of this and a little bit of that, the Alexis Mabille girl knows how to balance a mix of sweet country-inspired separates with tough leather outerwear and moto boots — and while she's at it, she'll throw in a side of quirk, too. Did you see those ultraembellished cobalt-blue sweatshirts? When we weren't dreaming up ways to style the plethora of printed and reworked toppers, we also spied more than our fair share of wispy LWDs and lace-infused black skirts that, when all other styling inspiration fails, you've got these feminine staples to see you through. At the heart of this lineup, there's something for every sensibility: the girlie girl, the spunky styler, the downtown girl, and the bohemian. Alexis Mabille Couture Fall 2012

Alexis Mabille Couture Fall 2012 Collection

Alexis Mabille said he was "imagining women as jewels" when he created his Fall 2012 Couture collection, and that meant an assortment of gowns in jewel-toned fabrics studded with lots of sparkle. Mabille showed his dresses in shades of onyx, amethyst, tanzanite, silver, and gold, and decorated them with lace embellishments and Swarovski Crystallized Elements. (One long-sleeved black dress had over 600 Swarovski buttons applied to it.) But perhaps the most obvious sign of Mabille's bejeweled inspiration came in the form of a hair decoration: All the models in the show had their hair plastered into sickles with brooches hanging from the tips.

Celeb Style: Zoe Saldana's Sweet Spring Cocktail Look

Thanks to a sweet-meets-cool knack for styling, Zoe Saldana is always on our radar for smart looks to steal.

Thanks to a sweet-meets-cool knack for styling, Zoe Saldana is always on our radar for smart looks to steal. Most recently, the actress outfitted a gorgeous take on cocktail dressing for The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo's 25 Most Powerful Stylists Luncheon. We love how she gave an intricate coral-hued Alexis Mabille frock a modern twist with eclectic add-ons — naturally, by Jimmy Choo. A snakeskin clutch and slick patent heels added interest, while a pretty pair of drop earrings, a metallic belt, and a gold-tinged anklet glammed up the style with just a little sparkle.
