Fashion's Biggest Names Get Animated For Barneys' Electric Holiday

Fashion Cartoons From Barneys & Disney Electric Holiday

Barneys won't debut anything from its holiday retail project until Wednesday, but stills from the coordinating film reveal a host of fashion people turned into cartoon characters.

In addition to the list of boldface names already included in Electric Holiday, the Disney animated film will feature animated versions of Linda Evangelista, Cathy Horyn, Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Franca Sozzani, Anna Dello Russo (at left), and Nicolas Ghesquière, among others. All of them participate in some way in Minnie Mouse's ultimate daydream: to walk down the runway during Paris Fashion Week.

The short film follows Minnie Mouse doing just that. After falling in love with a Lanvin dress she sees in a store window, Minnie Mouse slips into a reverie about wearing the dress in the City of Light. During her daydream, she stops to pose for Juergen Teller and Mario Sorrenti and rubs elbows with Carine Roitfeld.

A sneak peek at the film below, and a look at stills of all the fashion people here in the gallery.

Emmanuelle Alt Does the Parisian-Chic Thing So Well — And You Can, Too

There are only a handful of women who we can confidently say never make a styling misstep, and in the case of Vogue Paris editrix Emmanuelle Alt, she knows how to wear her classics so well, we just can't fault her.

There are only a handful of women who we can confidently say never make a styling misstep, and in the case of Vogue Paris editrix Emmanuelle Alt, she knows how to wear her classics so well, we just can't fault her. And with this latest look, she proved she can still shake things up too. Alt briefly parted ways with her usual all-black uniform in favor of a cool printed blazer, a gray-knit sweater, cropped evergreen trousers, and the perfect pair of slouchy black boots. Our first thought? This is everything we want from a great Fall outfit. Our next thought? We could totally wear this to work and feel slick enough to head straight from the office to happy hour, as is. At the end of the day, we're looking to make the most of our wardrobe — and if you're worried the printed blazer won't go the distance, here are a few more ideas. Pair it with a crisp button-up and jeans, throw it over an edgy LBD, or let it be the statement piece in a black-blouse-and-pencil-skirt combo. Now that we've covered our bases, let's channel our own version of Emmanuelle Alt Parisian chic.

Le Look du Jour: 24 Modern French Muses

"With French women you first see the woman and then you see the clothes," Carine Roitfeld has said when describing the essence of French style.
Modern French Style Icons

"With French women you first see the woman and then you see the clothes," Carine Roitfeld has said when describing the essence of French style. "It's more the way you mix the clothes and how you move, how you open your bag, how you cross your legs — just little things that make a difference."

Roitfeld makes it sound simple, but that perfect mix of irreverence, glamour, beauty, effortlessness, sex appeal, and slouch? Easier said than done. "It’s the fantasy of the entire world of women, even French women, to be the perfect Parisienne," Le Figaro columnist Bertrand de Saint Vincent explained recently in The New York Times.

Elusive, yes, but not impossible. Brigitte Bardot did it. Francoise Hardy and Jane Birkin, too. And while there's no denying the allure of those indelible dames, they're not the only ones. In honor of Bastille Day, check out 24 totally modern French femmes who somehow embody that certain je nais se quoi to a T.

Happy Birthday, Emmanuelle Alt

It's been well over a year since Emmanuelle Alt took the helm of Vogue Paris, and while the aesthetic of that magazine may have changed, one thing's for certain: Alt's personal style has not. In fact, if there's one thing that can be said about Alt, it's that she definitely sticks to a look.

"Her style is her big shoulders, long legs, tight jeans, sleeves up to the elbow, one hip out. I personally like her. She’s a handsome French woman," Karl Lagerfeld has said of the minimalistic, admittedly low-maintenance editor in chief. "I don't look after myself. I don't do yoga, Pilates, those things. I hate physical effort, I don't run anywhere, but I am superenergetic. Makeup? I just black my eyes, and that's it. My hair? I get it cut on set. I never go to a hairdresser. I'm not sure I'm French," Alt has said.

Regardless, we think the überstylist's French appeal is quite apparent. So in honor of her May 18 birthday — and her refreshingly low-key chic — we've gathered up some of our favorite Alt-in-uniform style moments. Bon anniversaire!

Carine Roitfeld Says She Doesn't Regret Losing Emmanuelle Alt's Friendship

    >> Carine Roitfeld is not only enjoying life as a free agent — she's also enjoying the ability to speak her mind, she says.

    >> Carine Roitfeld is not only enjoying life as a free agent — she's also enjoying the ability to speak her mind, she says. In a recent New York Times article, the former editor opened up on everything from her current hair color to certain friendships — new and old. Among the newest tidbits? Confirmation that stylist — and former French Vogue colleague — Marie-Amélie Sauvé will be involved in Roitfeld's yet-to-be-named magazine. Read on for a few more highlights:

On the past year: "This could have been a terrible year for me. It could have been very sad for me. I could have gone off to hide at a spa, or to Riyadh, but instead I changed my personality, and it has been a very successful year.”

On the Roitfeld brand: "Funnily, it is true that my name has become almost a brand. Maybe I will follow Tom Ford. I will not be as successful as him, but I want to have as much fun.”

On returning to her roots as a natural brunette, after five years of being blond: "I think I will be more me."

On losing her 10-year friendship with Emanuelle Alt: "Maybe this was not supposed to be a friendship. If I look at the balance, maybe I lost some people I thought were my friends, but I made so many new friends. I am very happy, in the end, because I am the winner . . . at the end of the day."

    >> Carine Roitfeld has confirmed that she's working on a new magazine, and hints that the imagery may be different than the vampy irreverence she was associated with at Vogue Paris: "I will always be irreverent in my own way, but I will try to use new approaches.

    >> Carine Roitfeld has confirmed that she's working on a new magazine, and hints that the imagery may be different than the vampy irreverence she was associated with at Vogue Paris: "I will always be irreverent in my own way, but I will try to use new approaches. I've used a lot of cigarettes, a lot of sexy pictures, a lot of naked girls. I will try to do something totally different now, because I don't want to get bored of myself or to bore my readers. So, if I learn something new today, I will use it. I have to reinvent myself." She continues: "I want to see a link between the catwalk and reality. It's difficult for the woman to understand how to wear the clothes she is seeing on the catwalk. Maybe I can find a new way of thinking and a totally different way to express myself."

When asked what she thinks of Vogue Paris under Emmanuelle Alt, meanwhile, Roitfeld is dismissive: "I am very happy with what is happening to me today. I am focusing on the future, new challenges, and projects. I am not really looking to the past or what others are doing."

Emmanuelle Alt Likes to Sing Karaoke with Kate Moss

    >> After six months in office as Vogue Paris's editor-in-chief, Emmanelle Alt — who spent a decade as the magazine's fashion director — tells Vogue: “It is really strange, editing the magazine; it’s like decorating an apartment you have lived in for ten years already.” One of the first things the six-foot, 44-year-old editor installed in her new office?

One of the first things the six-foot, 44-year-old editor installed in her new office? An iPod sound system, as she likes to have music — think Michael Jackson, ABBA, disco, and David Bowie — playing as she works. "People say to me, ‘Oh, my God, your iPod!’ But I think a lot of us love the stuff of our teenage years,” she explains.

And the musical leanings extend to her out-of-office duties, too: “I love to dance, I love to sing. After a shoot, I like to do karaoke. David [Sims, the photographer] likes it, too. And Kate [Moss]. In the studio, when you’ve been working hard all day, it’s such good energy to just play around.” She and Moss tend to duet on “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough),” by Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand, Alt says, with Alt on Streisand's part and Moss on Summer duty.
