Smash Style: Katharine McPhee Wears a Colorful Scarf and Studded Bag
While filming scenes for the upcoming season of Smash in NYC, Katharine McPhee worked a taupe leather jacket, colorful scarf, and peep-toe Maison Martin Margiela ankle booties ($855). The actress layered her Fall essentials over a lavender sweater and black skinny jeans, then accessorized with a stud-trim Romygold hobo and gold pyramid necklace. Victoria Beckham Shops in a White Collared Top and a Black Maxi Skirt
Leave it to Victoria Beckham to look insanely chic in black and white while on a shopping spree in Paris. The designer strutted her svelte stuff in a white Jil Sander collared blouse, which she tucked into a black column-style maxi skirt by Maison Martin Margiela ($875). Her accessories included a black Victoria Beckham satchel, which she held on to, her signature oversized square sunglasses, black platform suede Giuseppe Zanotti booties ($795), and a chunky rose-gold watch. While this outfit might be a bit too fancy for your next retail excursion, it would look appropriate for an important meeting at the office. Maison Martin Margiela Couture Fall 2012
Maison Martin Margiela's "artisanal"-themed Fall 2012 Couture collection combined found materials in exquisite handcrafted pieces that made perhaps the most avant-garde statement in Paris this week. The 15-piece collection included such items as an overcoat made from a windsurf sail, a jacket composed of baseball mitts, and a sleeveless jacket that used a crystal doorknob found in New York City as its fastener. Raf Simons, who started the week with his debut Couture collection for Dior, was seated in the front row at the show, leading many in the audience to believe that Margiela himself would make an appearance (the two are said to be good friends). But Margiela never showed his face . . . nor did the models who walked the runway, with their heads obscured by crystal-studded masks. The high-concept design in this collection stayed — literally — close to head and heart. Below the waist, most of the models wore pants cut from raw cotton or simple lace.

Update: H&M confirmed Tuesday that rumors of a collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela are true, and said that a collection of accessories and ready-to-wear for men and women will be sold in H&M stores around the world and online starting Nov. 15.
"Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades," said H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch. "I am so excited by this radical collaboration, which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment."
The French fashion house, which always speaks in the collective "we," issued a statement saying, "The democracy of our fashion has always been at the center of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all."
The Swedish retailer tweeted the announcement with a link to a video of a hand sketching a women's sweater. It added later, "Of course @MMM_Official with H&M collection includes menswear!" with a link to a picture of the same hand sketching a men's car coat. Take a look at both below.

Check out our picks of dapper toppers inspired by the duo; whichever style you choose, it will be sure to turn heads.
Maison Martin Margiela Fall 2012
There was an ease to Maison Martin Margiela for Fall 2012, and even though the house promoted some interesting ideas — maxi skirt sliced halfway off, anyone? — the majority of the collection was filled with softly tailored separates and outerwear that had a clean, classic timelessness to it. But first, those interesting ideas: turtlenecks that covered models' faces, and dresses and skirts that looked like someone took scissors to a kimono and then stitched it all back together. It still managed to feel clean and precise, perhaps another reference to Japan.
- Trends: menswear, kimono-inspired dressing, peplum, deconstruction, and monochromatic dressing.
- Colors: black, white, red, camel, and brown.
- Key Piece: The menswear-inspired overcoats.
- Who Would Wear It: This is for the edgy girl who grows up and wants to look a bit more tailored, but not by mainstream standards — Kristen Stewart of the future.
Maison Martin Margiela Fall 2012
>> Trick-the-eye cuts — for example, capes with sewn-down sleeves that looked like classic overcoats, and skirts with split-fronts that made them look like tuxedo trousers — dominated Maison Martin Margiela's Fall 2012 outing. Silhouettes were generous, the palette was subdued, and the house's mannish tailoring was in full display. "The shapes and construction of each piece of clothing derives from a specific gesture: attitudes such as 'over the shoulder,' 'hands in pockets,' and 'stand-up collar' inspire new, oversize volumes," the show notes explained.
