Embellish a Boring Bun With a Touch of Velvet à la Monique Lhuillier

For Fall 2013, Monique Lhuillier requested art deco elements for hair and makeup.

For Fall 2013, Monique Lhuillier requested art deco elements for hair and makeup. This translated into a severe shadow shape in the blackest-black hue. And for the hair, lead stylist Odile Gilbert chose a velvet-wrapped chignon that complemented the intensity of the deep, angular eye look.

The look: Structured chignons, graphic eye makeup, and gunmetal nails
The inspiration: Art deco
Color scheme: Black, gray, and dark green

The Battle of the Little Lace Dress: Zooey Deschanel vs. Hannah Simone

New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel and Hannah Simone, who play Jess and Cece respectively, couldn't be more different on the small screen, but last night, they were certainly on the same fashion wavelength.

New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel and Hannah Simone, who play Jess and Cece respectively, couldn't be more different on the small screen, but last night, they were certainly on the same fashion wavelength. Both actresses worked little lace dresses at a Glamour party in West Hollywood, but that's where the styling similarities stopped. Herein find your latest battle of the chicest: Zooey stayed true to her ladylike-retro style by donning a fit-and-flair emerald lace Monique Lhuillier dress with black tights, suede pumps, and a vibrant orange manicure. Meanwhile, Hannah chose a fitted navy number with black lace overlay and patent pumps. Which New Girl starlet gets your vote for best little lace dress?

Nina Dobrev Leads the Pack at a Pre-SAG Awards Fete — Which Look Wins?

What do Downton Abbey's Lady Mary Crawley, The Vampire Diaries' Elena Gilbert, and Revenge's resident scheming social climber Ashley Davenport have in common?

What do Downton Abbey's Lady Mary Crawley, The Vampire Diaries' Elena Gilbert, and Revenge's resident scheming social climber Ashley Davenport have in common? They — or at least their real-life actress counterparts — were all in attendance at Entertainment Weekly's Pre-SAG Party in LA on Saturday night. Michelle Dockery, Nina Dobrev, and Ashley Madekwe were joined by other small-screen award-season fixtures like Naya Rivera and Jordana Brewster for the evening's festivities. The ladies turned out a fun mix of colorfully printed dresses and one sleeker formfitting number. Nina channeled a breezy Summer vibe in her watercolor-printed Matthew Williamson strapless maxi dress, only to finish off the look with an equally easygoing hairdo and Elie Saab clutch. Meanwhile, the prints kept going by way of Michelle's halter-style, fishtail-hemmed Peter Pilotto cocktail dress, Ashley's cap-sleeved Monique Lhuillier number, and Jordana's black-and-white floor-length gown. And just when you think you're noticing a patterned trend (and you'd be spot on), Naya showed off her enviable figure in an strapless, ink-hued leather Monique Lhuillier dress and nude pumps. Whether it's the flirty fodder that caught your eye or the sexier stuff that will inspire your next night-out ensemble, there are five ladies in the running for last night's best-dressed title. Who did it best?

Golden Globe Awards: Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough had a serious princess moment tonight as she arrived on the red carpet in a white-and-gold gown from Monique Lhuillier's Pre-Fall '13 collection. Her dress was sleek and sparkling on top with gold embellishments. Her full white tulle gown also got the midas touch, with those same embellishments sparkling from every fold, wisp, and layer of her full skirt. Although we couldn't get a peek at her shoes, she accented her look with an eggplant clutch, minimal jewels, and a modern updo — which had just as much sophisticated whimsy as her gown. Are you on board with Julianne's look?

Critics' Choice Awards: Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria went for a body-hugging, fuchsia Monique Lhuillier gown tonight at the Critics' Choice Awards.

Eva Longoria went for a body-hugging, fuchsia Monique Lhuillier gown tonight at the Critics' Choice Awards. Although the gown's silhouette was simple, the multilayered ruffles took her look to the next level. The ethereal waves of fabric danced and slightly flowed as she walked and caught the wind, while also perfectly accentuating her stunning figure. A black box clutch added a bit of edge and a dash of contrast to her outfit, while the slight train of her gown threw some extra drama into the mix. To complement her sexy and colorful look, she pulled her hair back in a sleek ponytail to perfectly frame her diamond stud earrings. What do you think of Eva's red-carpet look?

Critics' Choice Awards: Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev may have been noticeably absent from last night's People's Choice Awards (it was her 24th birthday after all!), but there was no way we could miss her tonight.

Nina Dobrev may have been noticeably absent from last night's People's Choice Awards (it was her 24th birthday after all!), but there was no way we could miss her tonight. The Vampire Diaries starlet stepped out in an ultraembellished teal-hued Monique Lhuillier Spring '13 minidress that not only showed off her legs, but also bared a little décolletage, courtesy of one strategically placed cutout. And if you look a little closer, you'll notice the reason Nina shined so brightly is directly related to the amount of gems that made up the entirety of her dress. Translation: that's a real jewel-toned number. To finish, the actress accessorized with simple diamond earrings, ankle-strap peep-toe pumps, a smoky eye, and a sleek ponytail. Was this a hit or miss for your 2012 breakout star?

    American Music Awards: Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj dressed in bold hues tonight, but she did not opt for quite as outrageous a showstopping number as she has in award shows past.

Nicki Minaj dressed in bold hues tonight, but she did not opt for quite as outrageous a showstopping number as she has in award shows past. Case in point: the rapper stepped out in an eye-catching (that's what a bright shade of citron will do for you) floor-length strapless gown from Monique Lhuillier's Resort '13 collection. You may recognize this dress as the same one that Modern Family's Julie Bowen wore to this year's Emmys, but that's neither here nor there, especially when you consider that Nicki paired her look with platinum-blond waves and one serious statement necklace. Are you feeling Nicki's departure from wild and crazy outfits in favor of something a bit more glamorous?
