Paris Fashion Week kicked off last week, and there are tons of stylish stars flooding into the City of Light to take in the latest trends. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West joined up with Lily Collins and Ciara to attend the Givenchy show on Sunday, while Katy Perry had a fangirl moment with Rita Ora at the Chanel presentation on Tuesday. The sisters Fanning showed up in style together for Louis Vuittion, Salma Hayek had her fashion bigwig husband by her side when she attended the Stella McCartney show on Monday, and Lena Dunham was a lady in red for the Miu Miu event on Wednesday. Don't forget to check back for more stars at Paris Fashion Week as they filter in.
The models on the Hermès runway were on safari with bold prints and comfortable silhouettes, but the beauty look was far from wild. We would go as far to say that the hair and makeup veered toward the tame. Hair was pulled back into a half-up look devoid of curls. And the highlight of the makeup was a touch of taupe eye shadow with a darker brown applied in the crease (very similar to zebra stripes, no?).
Paris Fashion Week is arguably the chicest display of street style we see all Fashion Month, and for good reason. The shows in Paris are the last time — for the season, at least — our favorite showgoers can show face and pose for street style. Luckily, we've got veteran photographer Adam Katz Sinding for Le 21ème on the ground in Paris snapping photos of the most gorgeous ladies there. Click through to see our exclusive portfolio.
It seems Christophe Lemaire has figured out a direct line to the hearts of his customers: his Spring 2014 collection for Hermès is simply an offering of beautiful clothes crafted spectacularly from the most luxurious of materials.
But what else can one expect from the house that refuses to use anything but the best of the best? As far as theme goes, this show was a very comfortable safari. Guests were greeted with trays of warm madeleines, and the backdrop consisted of dresses and coats in rain forest floral prints, trench coats in greens so dark they were almost black, and a pair of culottes that looked perfect for a stroll in a tropical clime — or at least they would have if they weren't made of crocodile skin.
At Zadig & Voltaire's second-ever runway show, creative director Cecilia Bonstrom delivered a Spring 2014 collection that — much like the hard-meets-soft DNA of a brand epitomized by Erin Wasson, a muse to founder Thierry Gillier — was both assertive and delicate. It was also, for a French label, very American. Cowboy-style belts punched with studded eagles, biker jackets with black fringe, and overstitched ranger boots in cracked leather stood out most, especially when paired with contradictory pieces like silk undershirts and lace shawls. And, of course, for a brand that has its own indie music label, the soundtrack to the runway was perfectly crafted (MS MR's "Hurricane" got showgoers swaying in their seats, for instance) to fit this lineups rock 'n' roll vibe, but with some rounded edges.
Playful beauty is the standard at Miu Miu, and the look at Miuccia Prada's Spring 2014 show was no different. Like we've seen in her past shows, Prada threw the focus onto the eyes. Pretty pastel hues were dusted gently across models' eyelids, while the rest of the eye was kept bare. Gloss on the lips and barely-there brows were the only other standouts on the makeup side, which complemented the gamine collection. As for the hair, models looked as if they stepped out of the '70s. Long, slightly bent strands glided across their shoulders (and got caught in their lip gloss) as they walked, creating an effortless look that will be easy to replicate come Spring.
With Paris Fashion Week in full force, the celebrity crowd can't help but join in on all the fashion fun. And you better believe we've got our eye on what they're wearing in the front row and at designer afterparties.
So far, we've spotted Olivia Palermo showing a whirlwind of looks, and Katy Perry and Rita Ora at the Chanel Spring show earlier. Dakota and Elle Fanning turned up for the Louis Vuitton show, while a gaggle of famous faces showed their stylish support for Miu Miu. On the party scene were Kim Kardashian, Angie Harmon, Kate Upton, and Ciara, all looking fashion-forward at the Paris premiere of Mademoiselle C. A look at all of the star-studded looks here, in the gallery.
Louis Vuitton's master showman has taken his last bow — and what a spectacle it was! But it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Throughout his 16-year tenure as creative director, Marc Jacobs has marched models out of an old-style locomotive, spun them around a merry-go-round, and sent them down the runway in nurse whites, giving us many highlights to look back on long after he's gone.
