Suno Runway Fall 2012

Suno has grown steadily since hitting the fashion scene in 2009 with a collection that reflected co-founder Max Osterweis's Kenyan roots. The bright African prints, and the fact that Osterweis and his partner Erin Beatty produced most of the collection in Kenya, gave the Suno brand immediate soul. Since then, the collection has evolved into the quirky girl's dream — you go to Suno for incredible prints, but now you can expect pretty chic silhouettes, like tailored pants and military jackets.

  • Trends: Stripes, florals, mixed prints, peplum, military.
  • Colors: Orange, black, white, camel.
  • Key Piece: Striped pants, military jacket, any of the floral pieces.
  • Accessories: Floral-print booties, some peep-toe, others lace-up.
  • Who Would Wear It: Women with a quirky sense of feminine style like Michelle Williams or Elizabeth Olsen.

Suno Fall 2012

>> Suno has always been about print.
Suno Runway 2012 Fall

>> Suno has always been about print. Even before the current print craze, cofounders Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty drew upon Osterweis's Kenyan roots and extensive collection of vintage Kenyan fabrics to produce pieces that were bright, cheerful, and eclectic. The collection has matured since those early days, and this season's offering showcased what was perhaps the brand's most polished aesthetic yet. Joyful florals and graphic stripes were rendered on military-tinged jackets, tailored pants, and slim-lined skirts. The result? A bold — and, ultimately, super-appealing — collection.

Suno Spring 2012

Suno designers Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty took the refined route for Spring at their first show at Fashion Week.
Suno: Spring 2012

Suno designers Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty took the refined route for Spring at their first show at Fashion Week. While past collections have featured a louder, colorful mixed print mash-up, Osterweis and Beatty toned down the fire in this collection and instead opted for a more refined feel. Prints in the way of plaids, florals, and stripes were streamlined against a predominately neutral color palette save for the occasional pops of bright red and muted yellow hues. A standout number highlighted a beautiful bird print across a yellow wrap dress. Separates in the way of crisp, dimensional striped collar shirts paired with a watercolor patterned top and louche trousers also caught our eye. To finish, Osterweis and Beatty completed their looks with woven raffia platform sandals.

  • Trends: Plaid prints, crisp collars, slit skirts, metallic/shiny prints, knee-length skirts.
  • Colors: Black, white, red, yellow, blue, beige.
  • Key Look: The yellow bird print wrap dress.
  • Accessories: Woven raffia platform sandals.
  • Who Would Wear It: Girls who like to experiment with quirky prints and looser shapes like Kirsten Dunst and Keira Knightley.

Tribal jewelry is undoubtedly one of Summer's biggest trends, and we're coveting the look more than ever before.

Tribal jewelry is undoubtedly one of Summer's biggest trends, and we're coveting the look more than ever before. The perfect addition to this season's bold frocks and airy silhouettes, these pieces add a bohemian cool and ethnic intrigue to even the most basic ensembles. Take a classic white tee and jeans for an example. When paired with a chunky, mixed-metal necklace, an everyday look suddenly becomes eye catching and on trend. At Suno's Spring '11 presentation, models proved that tribal-influenced accessories, though raw and industrial, can look totally modern. For daytime, stick to a stack of wooden bangles or tough collar necklace. Come nightfall, up the ante with an oversized cocktail ring or dramatic, shoulder-sweeping earrings. Ready to take a walk on the wild side? Click the pieces below to shop.
