A Retro Flamingo Birthday Pool Party For Two

February may be cold and snowy in much of our country, but in Australia, this month is all about sunshine.

February may be cold and snowy in much of our country, but in Australia, this month is all about sunshine. So it was the perfect time of year to throw a combined birthday pool party for Tess and Sienna, the daughter of Leanne Ambrogio of Sweet Style, a stylish event planning and party supply company. "Once the pool party idea was set, we then wanted to come up with a cool theme to go with it . . . so enter the retro pink flamingo!" Leanne says. "Tess' mom is a super-genius graphic designer, so she came up with the amazing invitation and party stationery that set the tone for the entire day. Both the girls love blue so we incorporated this into the color theme. It was perfect to tie in with the pool!" A candy and cake table (featuring an awesome ombre, flamingo-topped cake) and a fun outdoor ice-cream bar ensured that this party appealed to guests of all ages. Wear Your Animal on Your Sleeve!

With springtime coming up, I've been scouring my fave shops for some cool and light tees to wear when the weather gets warmer.

With springtime coming up, I've been scouring my fave shops for some cool and light tees to wear when the weather gets warmer. Since I hardly ever have time to shop, between work and spending QT with North and his BFF's at the doggie parks, I usually reserve shopping time for weekends or online. Thankfully, being the animal lover that I am, there are tons of goodies out there that will allow me to display my love for the animal kingdom any time I want. Cruising over Urban Outfitters' latest duds, I saw that they had a number of creature-inspired looks that got me on my own PetMarking mission for themed tee shirts. Like this Cat Eyes tee from UO ($28) . . . the purrr-fect shirt for the kitty lover in me. Dress it up with jeans and some heels for an exotic night out, or wear with shorts while running errands, it works both ways! There's lots more to see, so check out my widget of animal tees below when you read more

Glitterati: Flamingo

Flamingos aren't necessarily jewelry designer Julia Nielsen's favorite type of bird.

Flamingos aren't necessarily jewelry designer Julia Nielsen's favorite type of bird. They're just the first best-selling piece of jewelry - pink Flamingo earrings, $18 - that she ever sold. That's where the inspiration for the name Flamingo came from.

Besides flamingos, Julia's designs also include birds, skulls, leaves, balls and more. The Sweden-based designer started off as a graphic designer back in 1997 and decided to pursue her passion for creating jewelry in 2003. She loves to work with leather because you have many more possibilities in terms of color. And you can see from her designs that she sure likes color! Julia also incorporates silver plated metal to her fun designs.
