The 10-bedroom, 11-bathroom Miami home that once belonged to Gianni Versace is on sale with an asking price of $125 million. The property holds a somber place in fashion history: Versace was walking up the steps of the house, known as Casa Casuarina, when he was murdered in 1997.

Versace bought the property, which was built in 1930, in 1992. He spent an estimated $33 million renovating the house, decorating each bedroom in a fantasy theme and adding a pool house.

Peter Loftin, a telecommunications entrepreneur, bought Casa Casuarina from the Versace estate in 2000 for $20 million. He lived there for several years and reportedly did not change Versace's original decorations. In 2009, he reopened the home as a boutique hotel and restaurant called Villa by Barton G.

"Every room is a work of art,'' said Loftin's real estate agent Jill Eber. "If the person buying it is not already a celebrity, it gives them instant celebrity status — if they want it."

Reports Surface Alleging Gianni Versace's Murder Was Connected to Mafia Debts

>> In 1997, Gianni Versace was shot and killed on the steps of his Miami home by serial killer Andrew Cunana.

>> In 1997, Gianni Versace was shot and killed on the steps of his Miami home by serial killer Andrew Cunana. Now, reports have surfaced alleging that Versace's death was the result of Mafia debts.

According to an interview with Giuseppe Di Bella, a former member of the Calabrian Mafia group ’Ndrangheta, Versace was involved in money laundering for the organization: "There were rivers of money from drugs, extortion, protection rackets, loan sharking, mountains of money and it had to be made clean. Bars, restaurants, property and luxury goods were used but also clean businesses like that of Versace."

Versace sent out a statement denying the reports: “We categorically state that it is based on the false and shameful allegations and ‘confessions’ of a former member of the ’Ndrangheta. The Versace family, together with Gianni Versace SpA, utterly refute these baseless allegations and reserve the right to take every possible civil and criminal action against anybody who repeats or propagates these allegations, and to protect the reputation of the company and the memory of Gianni Versace.”

But Rome-based anti-Mafia investigator Giancarlo Capaldo noted: "We have opened a file into what Di Bella says — he is an informer and his information in the past has always proved correct."

Rumor has it, according to Real Estalker, Gianni Versace's beloved Villa Fontanelle in Maltrasio, Lake Como, Italy, the scene of years of glamorous, celebrity-ridden parties, is finally being sold by the Versace clan. There was talk at one point by WWD that the villa would be purchased by a business partner of the fashion house, but The Times reports that filthy rich Russian restaurateur Arkady Novikov is buying the property for $52.3 million. He has apparently bid nearly six million over the asking price, in order to secure it as he gets his finances in order. Hard knock life, huh? Last night, Milan paid tribute to Gianni Versace on the 10th anniversary of his murder. Gianni was tragically killed outside his Miami house by serial killer Andrew Cunanan on July 15, 1997.

A two-part ballet called "Thank you, Gianni, with love," was performed at La Scala, and featured stage costumes designed by Gianni over the years, as well as costumes created specially for the tribute by his sister Donatella. Supermodels Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer, as well as Jessica Alba, Karl Lagerfeld, and many of the Versace family all attended.

We miss you, Gianni!
