To advertise her upcoming collaboration of formal dresses and cocktail attire with Target, stylist Kate Young selected a group of notables to be photographed by Terry Richardson.

The resulting campaign features Leigh Lezark of The Misshapes, model Hailey Gates, actress Nathalie Love, and model Lily Kwong. Richardson shot each of them in front of a step-and-repeat emblazoned with the Kate Young For Target Logo, casting them as It Girls arriving at a red carpet event.

Young's capsule will be in Target stores across the country starting April 14, and follows the successful Prabal Gurung collection for the retailer. Pricing information isn't available yet, but here's a first look at the campaign.

Watch: The Making of Jason Wu's Resort 2013 Collection

In a world of endless shows, high-low collaborations, and nonstop Internet news, it can be easy to forgot some of the more beautiful aspects of the fashion industry.

In a world of endless shows, high-low collaborations, and nonstop Internet news, it can be easy to forgot some of the more beautiful aspects of the fashion industry. In fact, sometimes the things that make fashion so compelling are rarely considered for longer than a few moments at the end of each season's round of shows. That's why it's so lovely — and refreshing — to hear a designer speak as articulately about his design philosophy as Jason Wu does in this behind-the-scenes video created by Swarovski.

Languidly shot in Wu's studio and filled with candid moments — watch for a cameo from stylist Kate Young — the mini film explores the idea of craft and offers all sorts of insight into the making of Wu's bug-inspired Resort 2013 collection. "I always love the idea of storytelling and I think everything around the clothes has to contribute to that," the designer explains. "It's really about weaving the story and having it told through the clothes." We couldn't agree more.

  • Kate Young's styling work for Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams has earned her the title as most powerful stylist of 2012. Young tops the list of The Hollywood Reporter's 25 power stylists, trailed closely by Petra Flannery (spot three) and Christina Hastings (spot 10). L'Wren Scott, Brad Goreski, and Arianne Phillips also make appearances on the list. [The Hollywood Reporter]

  • On the same day that Barneys fashion director Amanda Brooks announced that she was leaving the company and moving to London, Harper's Bazaar UK editor Lucy Yeomans announced that she's leaving to direct the editorial efforts at Net-a-Porter. • Ralph Rucci, designer of the couture-level clothing brand Chado Ralph Rucci, announced today that he would be adding a secondary line, a line of sportswear, and possibly a fragrance to his product assortment. Rucci said he "realized that not everyone can afford a double-faced cashmere suit," and wants "to make other garments that more women can afford." [Fashion ETC]
  • When Simon Doonan talks, fashion listens. In his most recent column for Slate, Doonan proclaims that Queen Elizabeth II is the most fashionable woman in the world. "In an era when the fashion landscape has fragmented into an infinite archipelago of conflicting trends and incomprehensible ideas, the only thing that really matters is to have your own signature look. Who has accomplished this if not QE2?" Who, indeed? [Slate]
  • Time is bringing back its twice-yearly Style & Design supplement, and actress Emily Blunt is on the cover. She's also featured in the pages of the magazine wearing everyone from Rick Owens to Chanel to Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent. Marios Schwab Shows Off His First Outing at Halston for Fall 2010

>> Last night, in a dimly-lit warehouse space in New York's Hell's Kitchen, Marios Schwab unveiled his first collection for Halston.  The house has had a rocky past since its namesake designer died in 1990, not excluding under the current management of Harvey Weinstein; in other words, the pressure was on for Fall 2010, with the feeling very do or die.

The models stood, sat, or lounged in a mirrored set, full of linear and geometric shapes, showing off their largely monochrome looks in a variety of colors.  There was plenty of draping to go around, but also a bit of stiffness — one tan dress had a barely detectable pentagon shape coming out of its center. Marios, mingling with the crowd, explained that he was less interested in the Halston archives — he only used his memories of the pieces — and instead focused on the Halston idea of creating timeless pieces for strong women. He said of his Halston girl: "She is open minded. She is the daughter of the original Halston woman.”

Harvey Weinstein and newly-named Halston president and chief creative officer Sarah Jessica Parker, too, were on hand — the latter overheard saying when she arrived, “Excuse me, I have to meet Marios!”  before congratulating the designer.  Kate Young styled, and Schwab had London-based jeweler Jacqueline Rabun create silver accessories — including ear cuffs — in organic shapes remniscent of Elsa Peretti's work for the original Halston.

Puff-strapped sandals caught the eye of many, but on a whole, Cathy Horyn was still not convinced:

Marios Schwab, the latest designer at Halston, appeared to struggle in his first effort. A handful of fluid silk jersey dresses looked Halston-ish. But it was hard to see how his lineup of stiffly constructed dresses and twisted velvet chemises varied significantly from his own label in London. It’s not that Mr. Schwab has to adapt his style to the heritage of Halston. Who remembers exactly what that was, anyway? But the two sides need to stop fighting so much.

Vena Cava Fall 2010: Rooted in Woodstock, with Live Music, to Boot

>> Vena Cava was the first of three shows today (the others being Rachel Comey and Erin Wasson + RVCA) to boast live music.  Ear plugs were left on every seat, as The Like was situated front and center on the runway.

>> Vena Cava was the first of three shows today (the others being Rachel Comey and Erin Wasson + RVCA) to boast live music.  Ear plugs were left on every seat, as The Like was situated front and center on the runway.

In the show notes, Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai explained that after a long weekend in a house in Woodstock, they immersed themselves in the '70s craft movement and "designed a collection for the Vena Cava woman to wear in her cabin upstate: pieces that read more minimal, American, '70s tinged, and somewhat classic." Stylist Kate Young helped Buhai and Mayock translate those ideas onto the runway with raccoon tails pinned to dresses and streaks of purple, green, and pink through the models' hair.  The designers are known for their hand-drawn prints, but there were noticeably less this season — only appearing on the sleeve of a top or two.
