Trendspotting: The Penny Loafer Pump

Today, OnSugar blogger The Artful Shopper shares her love for one of Fall's hottest shoe trends — the loafer pump.

Today, OnSugar blogger The Artful Shopper shares her love for one of Fall's hottest shoe trends — the loafer pump. Listen up to what she has to say, then shop her favorite picks!

“In fashion, either you’re in, or you’re out.” In the 6th grade, I wanted “in” and that meant joining the so-called “Preps” so, I assembled a wardrobe of V-necks, cableknits and Palazzo pants. And one of my most coveted items of them all? Wait for it . . . penny loafers.

Who can forget the novelty of buying their first must-have pair of shoes that all the other kids are wearing? Maybe yours were some pretty heels, or a cushy pair of UGG's, or a stylin’ set of Nike Airs, but penny loafers? Sure, there was the novelty of having big sis help me make them look all shiny, and adding the little charm of a penny, but who can forget the thick, awkward block heel, the unflattering height and the typically dowdy association with straight-laced school marms and perhaps, those least interested in fashion, “Gulp,” nuns?

HauteHelena — Help! I Can't Decide Which Loubs I Want More

Footwear Frenzy member HauteHelena needs our help — which Louboutins should she buy?!

Footwear Frenzy member HauteHelena needs our help — which Louboutins should she buy?!

This year, thankfully, the IRS gods have been good and given me a lot of money. In my conquest to become my city's Carrie Bradshaw, I decided that I should use the money towards something I've dreamed about: my very first pair of Louboutins. So I traveled 520 miles to the Christian Louboutin boutique only to find that the styles in stock were too trendy to justify spending $800. I walked into a Neiman Marcus an hour later and there was my shoe — a gorgeous, shiny, black patent leather heel. The Bianca (like this but patent). Then I came across these on Net-a-porter. So, what should I go with? Because in one way, I hate the super pointy shoes but they're classy. I love the Bianca but that platform isn't going to live forever.  Help, please! By the way, these are the ones I bought and am thinking about returning below.

There are already a bunch of groups you can join and explore, and please — start some new ones! Here's a helpful guide to creating in case you need some clarification.

High Heels

Surgery to Get Your Feet Stiletto-Slim?

According to Christian Louboutin, Barbie has cankles — but she's not the only one who needs a makeover to fit her stilettos.

According to Christian Louboutin, Barbie has cankles — but she's not the only one who needs a makeover to fit her stilettos. Apparently, donning perfectly crafted sky-high heels means women need perfectly re-crafted feet to match. In fact, even while most cosmetic procedures are on the decline — thanks to the recession — podiatrists report that the demand for cosmetic foot surgery is on the rise.

The fashion industry is already credited with making women feel inadequate when it comes to their figures, but I was surprised to learn that even a pair of strappy, heeled sandals can wreak havoc on female body image, causing some women to develop body dysmorphic disorder about their feet. Michelle Tzonov, a massage therapist from San Diego, always enjoyed an active lifestyle — an avid runner, hiker, dancer, and snowshoer — who decided her fully functionally, but bunion-covered, feet were in need of a makeover. Multiple surgeries to beautify her feet with intensive cosmetic surgery and a bunionectomy have since left her feet mutilated and saddled her with excruciating pain, likely to be lasting results of her botched surgeries.

Zucca Nylon Taffeta Dress

This morning, when we popped onto La Garconne to see what had posted over the weekend, 'oh la la' dribbled out of our mouths.

This morning, when we popped onto La Garconne to see what had posted over the weekend, 'oh la la' dribbled out of our mouths. La Garconne has a clean little way of editorializing their products. It's a simple splash, like the one we have on our front page, which shows a garment of note. Although we wholeheartedly agree with the way sites like Net-a-Porter editorialize their goods, we also have a soft spot for La Garconne's tidy, honest personality a la their front page. What helps give this simple design a little more panache is when the garment being featured is bright and wild like this Zucca Nylon Taffeta Dress.

Zucca is part of La Garconne's new Atelier section. The line, started by Onozuka Akira (protege of Issey Miyake) in 1989, is known for embodying the modern Japanese aesthetic which plays with proportion and textile at the expense of giving consumers those 'pretty cocktail dresses' they love so much. The Zucca dress is no exception. We'd expect someone with a lot of personality to show up to an event in this dress...she would likely be referred to as The Gal In A Blazing Taffeta Dress and she'd easy to spot standing in a sea of girls wearing their Herve Ledger and Louboutin outfits.

Handbags

On Our Radar: Christian Louboutin Handbags

The man who some would argue makes the sexiest (and most covetable) red-soled shoes on earth is now foraying into handbags, because he "had a lot of customers ask [him] for bags to go with specific shoes."

The man who some would argue makes the sexiest (and most covetable) red-soled shoes on earth is now foraying into handbags, because he "had a lot of customers ask [him] for bags to go with specific shoes." Well, la de da! New York Magazine put together a brief video interview with Mr. Louboutin which previews some of his bags - lots of clutches, mostly in black, some sequined, some satin fuchsia, and one furry green number all come into view.

Bergdorf already has a couple of Louboutin handbags for sale, but I would venture to say that it would be better to wait until the bags he was previewing come out - they're way hotter!
