The bomber jacket has come back in a major way this season. Only this time around, the utilitarian outerwear has been reimagined with feminine fabrics and patterns. We think it makes a great layering piece that will take you through Summer and right into Fall. Need further proof on why the bomber jacket is a must have? Just tune in to find out. Tanya Taylor Fall 2013
"I like to get things done with," Tanya Taylor told us during her Fall 2013 presentation at the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday evening, one of the earliest slots on this season's schedule. "I like to be ready and then kind of sit back and watch everyone else's shows."

Taylor's show — her third — preserved the '60s bent that we've seen from her in past efforts, this time filtered through the lens of artist Jean Pierre Raynaud. "He used a lot of grids. He was an architect and a horticulturalist to begin with," she said — which explains her use of plaid and floral prints. But there wasn't anything frilly here: a check coat couldn't prevent the black leather dress underneath it from looking tough, and the pointy metal cap-toes on some of Taylor's pumps could have looked a little lethal if they hadn't been paired with straight-legged orange trousers or little black socks.

Now that her own presentation is over, the designer plans to go to Alexander Wang and Honor ("Friends' shows," she said), and after Fashion Week there's the small matter of her April wedding in Barbados to attend to.

"I'm going on my bachelorette party," she said. "Big bachelorette party with 13 of my girlfriends next Friday, so that's a good way to unwind." The wedding itself will be in Barbados, and Taylor has known what she's going to wear for some time. "The dress is Elie Saab Haute Couture from the Fall collection that he's designing for me. I'm very excited."

Tanya Taylor Spring 2013
It's only her second season on the New York calendar, and already Tanya Taylor has generated quite a buzz. The Central Saint Martins and Parsons grad has been touted as "one to watch" by quite a few in the industry, and judging by the packed-in house at her Spring 2013 presentation, the praise has not gone unheard.

The collection itself was inspired by the '60s-era Sandy Lane resort in Barbados, and — much like the iconic hotel — skewed toward smart leisure with a quirky midcentury sensibility. Double-breasted blazers (draped over the shoulders for a just-threw-it-on vibe) were cut wide and boxy, trousers came pressed and cropped, and slim pencil skirts hit just below the knee. Colors were bright and there were prints aplenty (a girlish floral print and ditsy dot pattern were especially lovely), but it was the use of high-contrast black on straps and waistbands that kept the pieces from feeling too sweet. Overall, it was a winning lineup — one that proved that some things really can live up to the hype.
Tanya Taylor Spring 2013
There's a reason why Tanya Taylor made our "designers to watch" list, and it was reinforced tenfold at tonight's Spring 2013 presentation at the MoMA. The up-and-coming designer — known for her playful sensibility and vintage-inspired prints — traveled to the 1960s this time around, showing off a retro lineup of beachy separates. Taylor riffed on a brighter pastel palette (everything from coral pinks to louder tangerines were fair game) and applied it to below-the-knee swing skirts, printed cropped trousers, billowy jumpsuits, and mod car coats. What's more, her signature wit and palpable love of nostalgic silhouettes emerged via a renewed set of summery wares. The beloved crop top was given a sweeter bralette shape, the bomber jacket got a decidedly feminine upgrade, and the classic blazer took on a much boxier finish. Bottom line: Tanya Taylor's sunny pieces may evoke a throwback vibe, but they certainly beg to be worn now.
- Trends: Sequin florals, wider swing silhouettes, ultraboxy outerwear, cutouts, and even more variations on the crop top.
- Colors: Rainbow pastels that range from coral pink and tangerine to eggshell yellow, white, and black.
- Key Piece: The outfit of an embellished floral crop top and a crisp, white, wide-leg trouser.
- Accessories: Printed headscarves and two-tone sandals.
- Who Should Wear It: Quirkier style-setters with a penchant for old-school flair — think Kirsten Dunst, Rashida Jones, and Chloe Sevigny.
Designers Spill: Their Very First Times at Fashion Week
"At the time, I thought I was in the chicest place in the universe," said Peter Som of his first time at New York Fashion Week as a Parsons student. In honor of that impending chicness, we spoke with him and others — veterans and newcomers alike — to hear the experiences of their first shows, their most memorable moments, and how they plan to recover after the madness of the week is over.

Pamela Love remembers being nervous the first time Anna Wintour attended one of her shows (who wouldn't be?), and Chris Benz told us about his very own House of Style moment at Marc Jacobs's Spring 2002 show. We also heard tales from Rebecca Minkoff, Rachel Comey, Yigal Azrouel, Jenni Kayne, and many others. Read on for a look at their most memorable Fashion Week moments — and find out who was so starstruck by Chloe Sevigny that they offered to let her skip the bathroom line — here, in the gallery.
